Sacramento/Davis

It's official: we are going to Portland for law school!

I knew the instant I set foot outside the Sacramento airport. Sac and
Davis are just so... California... Which is just so not me. So flat,
and overly sunny, and beach-dude-like, and chain-restaurant-and-
traffic-filled. Yeah, even Davis has lots of thick traffic, and it's
smaller than Salt Lake! Lots of bikes around, though, but
unfortunately the cyclists are not the spandex-sporting sort of
cyclists which, I admit, I have a strange fascination and admiration
for. I strive one day to sport a spandex cycling suit of my own...
Just as soon as this body becomes skintight-presentable.

But I digress. I should mention that thanks to salt lake's little
winter2.0 blizzard today, my flight was quite late and I missed the
law preview day. That was a little disappointing but I did get a
chance to walk about campus and see the infamous UC Davis arboretum.
To be quite honest, it was kind of like seeing animals in a zoo; kind
of cool, but too many plaques and lights and fences taking away from
the sense of wilderness. As for the campus, it seemed a little sterile
and stuffy and highly trafficked.

Not for me.

But I will go to the reception tomorrow so I still qualify for the
$150 travel stipend. Why throw good money away?

In the meantime I'm going to try to figure out how to extricate an SD
card from a galvanized plastic container without any scissors and then
I need to rustle up some grub.

Ciao for now.

So sad for sunny California. I agree with you though. I've never liked California at all, and could never live there, unless the money was off the hook. Even then, I'd have to think about it.

Sorry about your flight too. I was thinking about that after I dropped you off this morning. I watched a plane land as I was leaving the airport, and I could barely see it until it was almost right above me. And here I thought this was Springtime.

Good luck with that SD card. Nothing short of dynamite can open some of those plastic container things. I hope you can find something sharp or explodey laying about.

Something exploding, let's see... I do have a clear plastic bag of 3 oz or less liquids that I could blow it open with. Thanks to TSA I now know that if I mix them altogether so there is more than 3 ounces I can make an explosive! or maybe I'll just use the heel of my boot.

That's right! I forgot about the fact that TSA considers anything even remotely near airport security to be some sort of deadly explosive, including shoes, belts, your baby's formula, shampoo, your insulin, a bottle of Dasani, Pringles, baby wipes, eyeglasses, nipple rings, watches, hats, scarves, jackets, gloves, pants, shirts, suspicious tattoos, Hebrew lettering on your shirt... I mean the possibilities are endless! It's a good thing we have such diligent and trustworthy, not to mention hard working employees at the security checkpoints to stop such travesties! Why, someone could actually get on a plane with a trial-sized bottle of mouthwash! Think of the horror! I'm glad my government protects me from flying terrorists with combs and toothbrushes.

I feel like I am seeing animals in a zoo if I dare go to the mall at the Holidays. I've seen animals in the ACTUAL wilderness and nothing can trump that. ~Mary

Congrats on making a final decision. That has got to be a relief.

Good on ya, Sra. Portland is a lucky place!

And extracting those SD cards is easy! Just secrete a little acid from your pores and it'll eat away the container, leaving the card behind.

What? You guys can't do that?

Congrats on the decision! I've always wanted to visit the Pacific Northwest. I was considering on going to the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA for my undergrad...but the U won out.

Washington/Oregon is where Laughy is convinced he will end up when he retires in 40 years.

Here's to new adventures in a new place. :)

Must be a big relief knowing where you're headed in the fall. Now you can focus on making the move!

Yea for Portland! I love and miss California but Sacramento and Davis are hot, nasty, and too far inland.
